My first car was a 1985 Ford LTD Police Interceptor... this was the small Fairmont-based LTD, not the Crown Vic. I bought it from the NJ State Police at their used equipment auction in 1990 for 2 grand. It had the police version of the 302/5.0 EFI V8 (double intake air cleaner the size of a manhole cover), and even with 110,000 miles, still snapped off 0-60 in under 7 seconds.
I dropped both a Z28 and a Corvette with it... of course, in its original dark red paint and plain looks, they probably thought I was in a hand-me-down from Grandma. Even though it was a little longer, it weighed 400 pounds less than the Mustang GT, and with the police tuning of the powertrain, it got off the line in a hurry with NO tire chirp or loud exhaust (can't let the crooks know you're coming)!
Only had it 5 months... started blowing water pumps and other things - I figured if I wanted to spend that much money every month, might as well get something new with a warranty. Traded it on a brand new F150 4x4... with the same engine.
